Visit Australia: Megalong Valley, the Blue Mountains
I've found a favourite. The fresh scones I ordered are warm and soft and with the cream and homemade jam it makes a heavenly combination for the taste buds. Sipping my tea, I look up to a beautiful blue sky lined with the cliff edges and the smell of eucalyptus hanging in the air.
I am sitting in the Megalong Valley Tea Rooms in Megalong Valley. It's my favourite place to come for a morning tea and relax in the serene environment of the Blue Mountains.
The tea room has been managed by three generations of women famed for their country style scones and apple pie, and is an ideal place to meet your friends for a chat. I always order the scones, but if you fancy there are other items on the menu, including a hearty breakfast with eggs, bacon and mushrooms to satisfy your cravings.
Due to its distance the Megalong Valley is never on the major tourist tracks, although for those in the known, it's a little oasis among the other mountain attractions that would otherwise be crowded with camera wielding visitors.
Accessed by one road going down from Blackheath. The drive itself is beautiful passing many of the nature trails and camping grounds, and provide some of the best spots for a picnic.
The most popular activity in the valley is horse riding and the area is said to be one of the best around NSW. Visit the Megalong Australian Heritage Centre for a ride as well as check out their farmyard shows.
