What drives your desire to travel?
I came across a post on What fuels your travel lust? on Wanderlust online today and I thought I'd revisit this topic.
My first ever post on Travel String asked the question why we travel. I quoted Pico Iyer and compared the desire to travel to falling in love, and looking back, I don't think my views have changed. Each time I travel, I experience falling in love, even in the most undesirable conditions (thunderstorms, food poisoning, losing my passport...). After all, our worst trips often become our best trips when we just can't stop talking about it!
As I get older I notice the frequency of those who travel have decreased with age. You get the usual replies such as "oh I did it in my early twenties, been there, done that." or "my family have tied me down, can't travel as much now that I have children". And it is in this sort of environment that I get asked once again, in a reversed fashion: "When are you going to stop travelling and settle down?"
Can I say never?
I don't currently have children, and don't plan for one any time within the next five years. There's currently too many people on this world any way, it won't miss one more baby...
It's not that I am opposed to the idea, it's just a matter of value and priority.
Well, there is travelling.
I don't think I've seen enough yet, and to be honest I don't think I'll ever seen enough of the world to be satisfied. However I do want to see and learn about the world as much as I can while I am physically capable to because I value travelling over all other experiences in life. (Yes, even compared to our wedding - I am a bad wife.)
It's pure curiosity that drives me, and the determination to prove that the world isn't as bad as what the media portray it to be.
What about you?

There is just so much to experience in the world! Even the bad stuff, as you say. I don't ever want to take it all for granted and become stuck in a rut, tied to one place, and end up wishing I'd done things differently. The thought makes me feel claustrophobic!
