A Tasmanian road trip: Port Arthur

We arrived at the Port Arthur Historic Sites around 1pm in the afternoon. The park is well organised, with some interesting interactive activities for all. Entry cost include a guided tour and a short cruise around the harbour. We started our visit with the cruise, which took us around 'Dead island'. During the convicts era, the island was used as burial grounds for convicts and officials alike. The higher the land, the more status the person has in society. The ghost tours at night are popular with those seeking some different experiences. Great idea, but being afraid of the dark (I admit I am) - we passed on the opportunity.April is a good time to visit, as there are daily plays telling stories of the lives of the convicts at the grounds. Each building has displays of artefacts, letters and coins on display, and the gardens a pleasure to walk around in. A visit to Port Arthur is a visit into history. Highly recommended for those in the area.
