Banks, watches and very beautiful people

(Hi everyone, I am back - apologies for the empty week!)

city of Zurich

Zurich, the economic capital of Switzerland, lives up to its reputation for the rich and the beautiful. In movies, we always see Zurich as the centre of wealth, where all the money are stored due to Switzerland's neutral stance in the world. The mafia will have their bank accounts with the same banks as secret government officials and all the money transactions with major casinos operate through Zurich. Knowing this, you would probably expect Zurich to be full of hi-tech buildings and boring office blocks, when in fact, Zurich is actually quite young, hip and trendy.

I don't know if it's all true, however the wealth is evident in Zurich, where everyone is beautiful, and everything is expensive. And yes, trendy trendy trendy.

Zurich main train station

Don't get me wrong. Zurich is by far the least materialistic place to be on this planet, and as much as it's the economic capital, it still pretty much feels quite small and pleasant to visit. It's just that as I learnt most men in Switzerland are in the military (for a political neutral country they need to be paranoid), I did notice there were no fat people. No even slightly pudgy. Everyone seems to stand in perfect posture, with their perfect smiles and perfect foot steps strolling on the streets with their perfectly pressed clothes, sometimes esteem damaging for us well-fed tourists...

The city is built around and on the river banks of Sihl and Limmat rivers and Lake Zurich. The natural beauty around the city makes Zurich a special place to be in. Whether you are on business or on leisure, you are reminded to take a break and simply sit, relax and take it all in.

If you are after Swiss Army Knives and watches, this is the place to be. Shops selling all different styles of knives and watches are everywhere in the city, and you sometimes can bargain when bulk buying. The traditional army knives can be engraved with your names or if you like variety, there are actually utility sets in the size of a business card, or other novelty items to purchase.

The city is full of cute little side streets

If you are a shopper for other things tho, it's perhaps better to avoid shopping for clothing and accessories in Zurich. They are quite expensive and you can get the same things for cheaper in other European cities. Perhaps simply just stroll the streets, people watch, sit by the lake and read a book or visit a cafe to taste one of their delicious chocolate snacks and enjoy your stay.
