"It is through travel that we meet and understand other people and at this time, when there is so much anger and misunderstanding in the world, travel is more important than it has ever been." - Tony Wheeler, 2005-Lonely Planet.... Travel String is here to connect the dots, to share my believe that it is by travelling that we learn from each other, that we make friendship, not war, and that, in this beautiful world of ours, there are still those of us who wish to experience it in its natural form, rather than destroy it. I hope you'll enjoy the journey with me.

Winter in Stockholm

I can hear you complaining from here - This winter has been too cold in Australia! What's going on?! Yes, I saw it on the news, Sydney apparently snowed. Small white hail covered the grounds of the northern beaches creating the white christmas effect on the city that never really had such spectacle.

Well, think this - at least the harbour is still working! I remember my visit to Stockholm during an European winter. It was beautiful, it was magical and it was freezing.

Stockholm is in a way, very much like Sydney. It's based around a harbour and is absolutely beautiful. In a different way of course, that there are a lot more history and heritage in its building structures than we have in Sydney, and in winter, the harbour closes because the water in the harbour is frozen.

It certainly was a novelty for me, the first time European traveller at the time (in 2003) to be spending such winter in such a cold country.

I am looking forward to visiting the remote northern islands of Norway when I have the chance. That would be such an experience!

Night in Stockholm
Stockholm buzzes at night with street full of shoppers and restaurant goers

Ice Harbour
That's cold hard ice - and a harbour full of it!

Was just in Stockholm two weeks ago! It was sunny and bright, around 20-25 degrees and the sun didn't set till 11pm : ) The Stockholm in your pictures is totally unrecognisable to me! I'll have to go again in winter.
