Sawtell - the best place to live
September 8th 2009 11:48
Wait a minute - we just moved from there! Bugga!
Yep, that was my reaction to the recent article on 'the best place to live' - according to Debra Jobson from Sydney Morning Herald, the winner is SAWTELL.
Sawtell is a small village just south of Coffs Harbour, about 5 mins walk from where we lived while we were up that way last year. It is, as the article puts it - "a holiday haven" and now, it looks like people don't just want to holiday there - but want to live there too.
I can vouch for Sawtell. It is indeed a great place to live. Great surfing on the main beach and where the sea feeds into the nearby creeks also makes safe and excellent swimming for all.
Best of all - it's never too crowded like all the Sydney beaches can get.
Although small, Sawtell's main strip of road has a good selection of restaurants from Thai to Indian to Tapas to just a simple cafe. The atmosphere is wonderful, especially on a weekend morning where everyone is out sitting on the sidewalk, sipping their coffee and reading the paper. In the afternoon after work, while the sun is still out in summer, is the best time to hit the waters and those preferring an enclosure swimming area can make use of the rock pool at the beach.
Sawtell is also only 10 mins drive from all the Coffs Harbour facilities and attractions, making it nice and convenient for both residents and visitors.
If you guys ever want to visit, I suggest staying in Coffs Harbour and get a hire car to visit Sawtell for the day. Or if you have seen everything around Coffs (including Dorrigo, Bellingen, the Big Banana and the Sunday Jetty Markets) - then stay at one of the motels in Sawtell so you can have walking access to the beach as well as the restaurants and cafes.
Now I am missing the place
