Sabah - Malaysia

Apologies for now these are just going to be quick summaries until we get home and I have a bit more computer time to write up details.
So. after 2 days in Kuala Lumpur as we got to Malaysia, we hopped on another flight to the Borneo side of things, to Sabah, famous for the Orangutans, rainforests and the mighty Mount Kinabalu.
We flew into Sandakan and spent 1 night at Paganakan Dii Forest Retreat in Sepilok. The night cost us USD35 and I didn't expect much. As we arrived at night, we caught a taxi directly from the airport and as the road went on, it seemed like the taxi was taking us to some remote village as there were less road lighting and more and more trees. We were starting to wonder where I've taken us.
However when we got there, it was a beautiful, in the jungle long house retreat that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was beautiful and the staff were so friendly!
The next day we were picked up and taken on a one night trip to Selingen Island, one of the 9 Turtle Islands in the region. The boat took us from a nearby river 'jetty' to the open seas where we had lunch on Liberian Island Resort before heading off to Selingen. The afternoon were at leisure and it was mainly sent snorkelling (excellent snorkelling off the beach) and lying on the bed in our air conditioned chalet to beat the heat. After dinner we were kept waiting in anticipation until the rangers located the turtles and waved us over to watch the spectacle. It was a sudden and quick but amazing experience.
The next day after being dropped off on the mainland again, we were back at Paganakan Dii to enjoy our last night in Sepilok. We spent the afternoon at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation centre and watched the feeding of two cheeky Orangutans and learnt about the great work of the centre. Back at the retreat we slept with the sounds of the forest before catching a flight to Kota Kinabalu, the main city in Sabah.
Now, we've just spent the last three nights in Kota Kinabalu, visited the Mount Kinabalu gardens and the Poring Hot Springs, and strolled the streets of the lively city. We also spent a day lazing on the beach of the nearby Manuku Island, snorkelling and visiting nemos, and then ate the wonderful food the local markets have to offer.
In about 2 hours we'll be on a flight back to the western peningsula to Kuala Terengganu. More to come!
