Adrenalin adventure in Rotorua
Ok, so the trip introduced me to another side of Rotorua. While every one goes to Queenstown for all things extreme, I didn't know Rotorua can actually also be quite fun for adrenalin seeking adventurers.
Lets start with the Zorb - that big plastic ball you climb into so you can roll down the hill with. Yep. The one that I really wanted to do. Unfortunately this time we didn't get a choice to do it but I saw a couple of people going on it and I thought - wow!
So, after showing us around the grounds of AgroAdventures (the free trip wasn't really FREE at all - as travel agents we still needed to work and learn about the products!) we were given a couple of choices of free rides to go on. There were the Skydiving simulators, the Schweeb, the Swoop and the Jetboating.
I chose the Schweeb because it looked like the least scary thing to do (I am a wuss!) - you might have remembered a while ago the travel show Getaway came here and introduced the concept. It's pretty much a little monorail ride that is powered by human effort. There are two railing and you get to race a friend. It doesn't look much but it's actually really fun and really tiring!
And then, I didn't know what else to do. Everything else looked like it was going to kill me and I don't particularly like Jetboating because the motion makes me queasy. Having being egged on by fellow colleagues and the fact that I felt sorry for another girl to have to go alone - I decided to go on the Swoop.
Big mistake. What it is, is pretty much hop into a sleeping bag like thing, get tied up and get dragged up about 40 meters by a cherry picker structure and you pull the chord, and... drop.
Can I tell you, that I did not see a thing at all. I held onto my colleague, had my eyes closed and told her to tell me when it was all over. The worst part is the lifting and the anticipation - the actual drop wasn't too bad because it's a swing horizontally not vertically so I felt more like I was flying rather than dropping. According to a colleague though - it is actually more scarier than bungy jumping..... glad they didn't tell me that before hand!
I did have a video of my own but here is one off You Tube for you to have a feel of what it was like....
And of course - there is White Water Rafting. I've never rafted before so I was extremely excited.. until they told me the river was a Grade 5 river and we were going to raft down a 7 meter waterfall....
But I braved it through and I love it!
And I do believe all these activities are actually cheaper than Queenstown.
