Review: White Grass Ocean Resort, Tanna
I really should be objective but - I LOVED White Grass Ocean Resort!
There isn't very many accommodation choices on Tanna, and I believe that White Grass is the only resort of this quality.
There are only 14 huts at the resort, which means guest numbers are limited. The resort is right on the seaside and is walking distance to some of the waterholes for swimming.
The staff are friendly here, and with only limited number of guests at any one time, it's likely they'll remember who you are by the second day.
The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The shower is great! There is something about having a good shower when you are travelling, definitely some of my guilty pleasures on my journey. The huts are also well spaced out so you don't feel like you are being watched all the time.
The food - Oh the food! - is fantastic. That was the highlight of our stay. Breakfats is included but unfortunately you have to pay for your lunches and dinners. As I mentioned in my post about Tanna, it is not somewhere that you can just hop out and roam about town - there is no town. So you are pretty much relying on the resorts for food. Yes, unfortunately it is quite expensive, a meal cost around AU$27 but with the lobster item (which appears on every dinner menu) being AU$36 that is the only bargain.
Having said that, I was quite happy to pay that for the quality of meals we got, not to mention, the dining room looks out to the ocean which makes the whole meal experience all that much worth it.
All the resorts on Tanna run their own tours, and White Grass runs one of the more reputable tours to the volcano as well as the villages. I suggest booking at the time you book the resort to avoid missing out because they only have so many vehicles going out at a time.
I give this place 8 out of 10. Losing 2 points on the lack of maintenance of the so called complimentary non motorised watersports equipments (it was just a shed with flippers, goggles and jackets thrown all over the place).

Sitting by the edge of the cliff having drinks and chatting with friends is the perfect way to end an adventurous day on Tanna
