Hotel Review: Grand Mercure Hadleys, Hobart
Checked in: 22 April 2011 for 2 nights
Room: 201
Cost paid: $160 per night room only
The heritage listed Hadleys Hotel has been in Hobart since 1834, is Tasmania's oldest continuous operating hotel. Right in the city centre, between the mall and the waterfront, the location is superb. Interior decor has a Victorian charm, although it is evident some parts of the hotel require updating.
It was a little hard to find, as it is a joint building with no open car port a standard hotel generally has. No parking is available, but there are plenty of free street parking around the hotel.
We stayed in a standard double room. Small, but comfortable. The old style furnishings makes one feel like you are staying in a guest room at some lord manor somewhere. Shower was good and the room has all the necessities, including a kettle, TV and fridge. Unfortunately the TV was old and most channels were blurry, so we found ourselves reading our books instead.
The restaurant is light and airy, and have a slight Tuscan flair. The bar is well stocked and has a vintage atmosphere. Staff here at the Hadley are friendly and approachable. There are no major issues during our stay, however it isn't the 'luxurious' experience some travellers may expect.
My ratings: 7/10
