Top hotel rooms
This week's episode of Getaway introduced us to their top 50 hotel rooms of the world.
While I am not as well travelled, or not as well paid to have stayed in great many luxury hotel rooms, I thought I'd still share some of my favourites for those with a budget like mine (say at the most $160 per night per room if I feel like a treat):
Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu - Malaysia
Based on the hotels I have ever stayed in, this makes the top of my list. The hotel is almost waterfront, with one street and broadwalk seperating it from the most beautiful waters of South East Asia. The rooms are beautiful (and we were lucky we had semi-water views), facilities are great and the breakfast buffet is unbelievable. The place is clean, well decorated and is affordable. If you are ever in Borneo, and in need of a quality hotel to stay in, I highly recommend it here.
Crown Promenade, Melbourne
Ok, so this is not exactly 'budget' but I was lucky to have stayed at the Crown Promenade several times on work trips when I was back in the corporate world, and once I stayed for a whole two weeks. It was a treat. My room faced the Port Melbourne side which meant my level 15 ceiling to floor windows looked out toward the water, the bed was big and comfortable, and the only thing missing from the room was a bath. However being a business hotel it was everything I needed.
Wrest Point Casino Hotel, Hobart
Surprisingly one of the cheaper quality hotels in Hobart. Located on the waterfront at Sandy Bay, it's only about a 5 minute drive into the CBD of Hobart. We stayed in a tower room and had excellent water and mountain view. The area is not as busy as the CBD which means it's easier to get in and out when trying to explore the surrounds.
Jayakarta Resort, Bali
I know there are plenty of beautiful, good resorts in Bali, but for one that I can afford Jayakarta was more than I expected.
Staff are extremely friendly to the point that by my third day almost all the front counter staff and some restaurant staff knew me by name. The location was great, and the daily shuttle bus service into Kuta was a convenient bonus.
Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat, Sepilok, Malaysia
This may not be a four or five star resort, in fact I don't even think it has a star at all, but our stay at Paganakan Dii was a highlight on our trip to Borneo.
We only found it while trying to find somewhere cheap to stay on Hostelworld.com. This little place is hidden away quite literally off the side roads in Sepilok, and without first knowing about it, you wouldn't even know where to start to find it. And it's because of its seclusion the whole place is serene and is the best place to chill and enjoy the jungle.
Even better, I think per night per room was only about $60!
That's my list. A short one, but I am sure will grow over time.
Do you have any favourite hotels you would like to share? I would love to know about them!
