A photographic journey through Kuching - the Cat City
If you are a cat lover, and you have never heard of Kuching, then it's about time you plan a trip!
The word Kuching means Cat in Malay, and the city worship all things cat. Within the city centre there are statues of cats dotted around the streets, and a visit to the cat museum in the city hall is a must.
Don't worry if you are a dog person, there are plenty to Kuching to keep you occupied. The waterfront to the river is a pleasant walk and has little side cafes and markets to wander by. Shop on India Street and Chinatown for some souvenirs, visit the water villages on the river, head over to Damai north of the city to visit the Sarawak Cultural Village as well as check out the beautiful beach nearby. When you have explored the day away, get yourself to Top Spot seafood stalls and have a fresh seafood feast for a fraction of the cost you would pay back home! (Just as an example: we ordered a slice of 200g steamed fish, 200g of grilled king prawns, 200g of stir fried clams, a plate of stir fried fern and two bowls of rice - all this for AU$16!)
