Travel destinations they would have been

This week's The Age has a travel report on places that would have been great if they were accessible at the moment.
Read: Amazing Destinations The Could Have Been
I actually have a fascination with all these 'inaccessible' places such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Democratic Republic of the Congo and others on the list. I know they have great landscapes, fascinating culture and great people, if not for their heavy military and unstable political activities.
A friend of mine is off to Afghanistan soon to work for NATO for the next 12 months. As much as I am really concerned for her safety I can't help but feel a little jealous as well. I think I would have loved to do that, putting myself extremely out of my comfort zone.
I recently also just bought The Travel Book (Lonely Planet) and I enjoyed flipping through its pages and travel to all these places in my mind. There is just so much more in the world to see!
Do you have a dream destination that is currently inaccessible to tourists?
