Hotel Review: Mercure Hotel Launceston
Check in:25 April 2011
Check out: 26 April 2011
Room: 207
Price paid: $131 through Zuji.com.au room only
Parking: Outdoor carport. $4 a day.
We stayed at the Mercure Hotel Launceston during our Tassie trip in April. This small-ish hotel, part of the Accor brand, is tucked away in a side street a block from the city centre, in a convenient, walk-able distance to shops and restaurants on the quieter side of the city. Our check in process was pleasant and relaxed with everyone at the reception smiling and waiting to receive the next set of guests.
The rooms have all the standards: TV, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities. There was a small area for 'lounging' and writing, and with still enough space for me to do my morning yoga.
The bed was slightly old, and hence squeaked a little, but nothing that would send me off to complain to the manager.
There are no gyms and no swimming pools at the hotel, but you are able to hire a car through reception and a tour desk ready to advise on your next adventure.
We arrived on Anzac day, and most of Launceston was closed therefore we were forced to eat at the hotel restaurant. The Snappers restaurant is excellent. There were steak and seafood and a good wine menu. Our dinner (two mains, a glass of wine, a beer and complimentary bread rolls) cost $66, standard to most hotel restaurants in Australia. The waiting staff were courteous and very knowledgeable about their wine and food offerings, and were always attentive.
Overall rating*: 7/10
* Overall rating are based on comparison with other hotels of equal standards and are my personal opinion only.
