"It is through travel that we meet and understand other people and at this time, when there is so much anger and misunderstanding in the world, travel is more important than it has ever been." - Tony Wheeler, 2005-Lonely Planet.... Travel String is here to connect the dots, to share my believe that it is by travelling that we learn from each other, that we make friendship, not war, and that, in this beautiful world of ours, there are still those of us who wish to experience it in its natural form, rather than destroy it. I hope you'll enjoy the journey with me.

Merry Christmas everyone! I thought I'd use this opportunity to share some photos of Christmas Markets in Europe, originally a German tradition, now not just in Germany but most of the cities and towns along the German border in France as well as some parts of Switerland and in Austria.

Metz Markets
The Christmas markets in French town Metz

Saarbruecken Markets
A smaller scale market in Saarbruecken - doesn't mean it wasnt good though!

Santa Band
The Santa band entertain the crowds at night at the Saarbruecken markets

Christmas figurines
Beautiful hand made figurine at the Strassbourg (French town) markets

Christmas food
Gluewein and bread... perfect for a cold winter day!

Street Scene
There is no escape from that wonderful christmas spirit! (Strassbourg, France)

Hi

Funny I was going to do a christmas market blog myself but I won't - not this year anyway.

I went to the christmas markets in vienna and Bratislava. Excellent.

I was amazed at how pushy people were. If they want to see something they just push you out of the way. I got extremely p@&*ed off but my friend who's famlily is german told me to get over it, its just what they do!

Mmm love the gluwein! Ahh there are times I really miss christmas in in Europe. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Aaaaah Amy, such warm memories of my youth!

Gosh, doesn't it make the heartless, Americanised Malls of our world seem so flat and souless in comparison. Certainly no spirit at my local mall, just mad panic, mayhem and rude people everywhere... very little magick there Im afraid!

Thansk for sprinkling this little bit of fairy dust across my heart ...

Lilla ...

Hi Sara - yes they can be a little pushy, but oh wells, I got over it

Lilla - glad you enjoyed it! It certainly beats all the commercialism in our worlds....

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

What lovely festive pics. Maybe the trend will catch on in Australia sometime - although our markets are never quite as good.

Merry Christmas Amy.
