Hotel Review: Breakfree Aanuka Beach Resort
Last weekend we decided to visit our old temporary home at Coffs Harbour and stayed at the popular Breakfree Aanuka Beach Resort at Diggers Beach.
It is one of the most popular resorts clients ask about when visiting the Coffs Coast, and a great favourite for families. However our visit was unfortunately disappointing.
The resort itself is beautiful. It is well landscaped, well equipped with entertainment with 2 swimming pools, putt putt golf, a tennis court and beachfront, it certainly knows how to keep its guests busy.
Right, so perhaps we were a little stingy and paid for just a normal hotel room, rather than the fancy Bures that were on offer. The rooms were semi-detached off the one bedroom/two bedroom units so that we shared the same narrow 'walk way' to our doors and our window looks out to the doors of the other unit. Not exactly private, and not exactly romantic. Which was fine. We were looking to be romantic although, you would think that the resort staff, when allocating rooms would think about where to put what clients, as at the same time as when we were there, a state soccer camp of some sort was being held in Coffs Harbour and these boys decided to stay at the Aanuka as well. And we ended up having a room completely surrounded by these boys as they had occupied the surrounding units.
The room itself is, well, a hotel room. Small but enough and clean and orderly. But the promised Austar (Regional version of Foxtel) was not connected, and we found out later that the rooms are not serviced in this part of the resort.
It felt almost like a more upmarket motel than a premier resort as it advertises itself.
Nevertheless, the staff were all friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great (which was one of the things included in our rates) and it is beach front, which meant that we had easy access to get away from the room when we really needed to.
Other than the room, as I previously mentioned, the resort itself is not bad. Families with kids should consider staying here for its wonderful kids facilities such as a kids club, water slide at one of the pools and putt putt golf.
