Getting the best deal
September 8th 2007 08:39
There is nothing better than getting a good deal on your holidays. It means more money for you to shop and pamper yourself with when you get to your destination. The paper advertises plenty of travel deals around the world but every time you manage to find time to enquire, they are always sold out and you end up with the more expensive options.
I hate that.
So as much as I hate spam mail, I’ve decided to subscribe to every single travel agent / travel magazine / newspaper travel sections email newsletters.
Oh yes I did!
As much as it sounds annoying, it actually has gotten me the best deals. Emails are usually faster than how fast the companies can put the advertisement on their website. As soon as I receive an email, I scan through the deals. If I happen to be planning to go somewhere already, I book it straight away. If I haven’t planned anything, it gives me an idea on what deals are out there, and whether they are an option.
Also - look out for package deals that include flights, accommodation and sightseeing options. They usually are cheaper than booking the trip components seperately and sometimes you get offered extra stuff for free!
Sounds quite stressful you say? Well it really isn’t. If you are not in the mood, just delete the email. It only takes a second.
Even better – you also get notified of any competitions that are happening. Even though out of the couple of hundreds of competitions I’ve entered I have in fact won none, at least there is still that very slight chance you might actually score yourself a free holiday.
Just the thought makes me happy !!
There is just one thing about this approach though – most tickets on sale are not flexible, and therefore if you do change your mind you are likely to be asked to pay administration fees to change dates or cancel the tickets. Just be mindful of that.
Otherwise, have fun!

Flashes of memories
Good advice. I love to travel. I find that if I take the time to browse online I can normally save a lot of money on my travel deals. Sometimes package deals are not as good as what they appear. Last minute deals are also great for saving money.
Happy travels
