To travel, is to accept that the world is made out of differences, and its the differences that makes this world an interesting place.

Happy Travels and Stay tuned!

The Hills are alive with the sound of Salzburg

Salzburg
Salzburg from the top down

I don't remember if I have written about Salzburg yet, this small but extremely famous city in Austria, where its sceneries will remind you of parts of the film The Sound of Music. Don't be trapped for one of those film tours though, the locals themselves don't really know much about the film, and you will be sucked in for one tacky ride.

Instead, take to the streets of Salzburg. Even without the tour you can still recognise the fountain where the children ran about and sang their Do-Re-Mis and the little stone dwarf statues they danced around with. The main shopping street is absolutely charming with their little old shop signs... even our beloved golden arches (MacDonalds) sign looks like its worth a million dollars.

Just some of the places that might remind you of the movie:

The garden
This is where the children did the bit where they sang "So-Do-La-Fa-Mi-Do-Re.."

The Gazebo
THE Gazebo - looks a lot smaller in real life

Salzburg is not only famous for being the setting of Sound of Music, it is also where W.A. Mozart, the famous classical composer was born. A visit to his birth house was like a pilgrimage for me, being a fan of his music and having played his tunes for my piano exams over many of my younger years. The house is not a museum and has some letters the family wrote to each other as well as some of Mozarts earliest compositions, neatly displayed in glass cabinates.

MacDonalds
A very elegent Maccas sign

And don't forget to try some Mozart branded chocolates. They are good.

There is also the fort above the hills to explore, as well as lots of little out of town walks to do along the river and among the hills. Just don't fall for the tours, you don't need to join to visit the gazebo.
