"It is through travel that we meet and understand other people and at this time, when there is so much anger and misunderstanding in the world, travel is more important than it has ever been." - Tony Wheeler, 2005-Lonely Planet

A job in paradise

January 14th 2009 06:34
I wasn't too sure where this post should go - in Project Job Search or here on Travel String. Alas, travel wins.

I couldn't believe what I was reading until I read it again.

"Tourism Queensland is looking for applicants willing to walk white sandy beaches, sit under palm trees and swim with turtles as they soak up the sun." Sydney Morning Herald reported in their article: Island caretaker job offer: get paid $150,000 to swim, snorkel

It is a strategy to place someone in the spotlight, have them blog their experiences enjoying the Queensland tourist spots to attract more visitors while the credit crunch seems to have decreased tourist numbers in Queensland.

The job will last six month, and this person will have to enjoy swimming, snorkling and /or diving while keeping an interesting blog of their activities and life under the sun. The pay is more than any regular job would offer, but unfortunately it is "likely an overseas applicant would be picked."

That sucks doesn't it? I mean, the entire world will be putting in their applications, and us domestics won't stand a chance by the looks of it.

I might give it a try anyway. You never know

A job in paradise
A job that allows me to do this everyday? I am ok with that!

Amy, I was wondering, what's the official closing date for the registration?

Applications close 22 Feb 2009 - there are some good information on the FAQ page.

You applying too?
